The Princess of Wales's Traditional Yuletide Musical Celebration Spotlights Charity Helpers
The Princess of Wales is hosting her yearly Yuletide celebration at the historic Abbey, with a congregation comprising dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have made a difference in their neighbourhoods.
The sizable congregation will listen to a selection of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.
A Theme of Love and Generosity
The theme of the event, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on the afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.
Attending the event are a couple named the Cordiners, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to support families who have a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.
"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the well-being of people," wrote Catherine in a message before the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The princess has been making her own measured re-emergence to official duties following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her first public speech for two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Music and Opportunity
Those coming to the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the charitable trust Future Talent, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with awards contributing to musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "awesome" to be performing at the concert.
"Music can be very expensive," the musician remarked. She is now studying at the prestigious music academy, and added that "everyone should have the opportunity" to cultivate their performance abilities.
A Family Affair
Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Attending the service will be representatives of different generations.
That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to collect donations for local food charities.
Yuletide Atmosphere and Acts
The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett helping to make them.
The musical lineup includes singer Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, Fisherman's Friends, who said the opportunity to perform was "the perfect culmination."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
