Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a glimpse into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — receiving a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The last thing the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the badge pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
